How many ideas in society are just repetitions of the same tried and tested concepts?

Probably most. Original thought seems to be quite rare. This is why we "idolize" inventors and other creative people. We are only human after all. On the other hand look at the tremendous progress in technology humanity has made in the past 500 years.
